"I think it would be funny to release an update when I'm, like, 90 years old."

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has been working on Stardew Valley for over 12 years. Although he’s been busy working on the next title, Haunted Chocolatier, he still holds the first baby in the center of his heart and spares a large amount of time to bring free updates to introduce tons of new content to the beloved indie simulation game.
In a recent interview with All Things Considered, a news program on NPR, when asked about the future of the game and if it will ever come to a point where the solo developer will be done with it, Barone shared the standard that he believes would make him stop on its development:
"If I feel like it's starting to become kind of overwhelmed with content to the point where it's detrimental to the game's entertainment factor, I would stop at that point."
But right now, it’s far from reaching there. As the creator, Barone also enjoys playing Stardew Valley, and every time he plays it, he comes up with ideas that he’d love to bring into the game - I guess that’s where the newly added features with the massive 1.6 updates came from. Even with over a decade of development, he still feels the "desire to come back."
"I don't want to definitively say that the book is ever closed, because I think I will always have a desire to come back and maybe add a thing or two. You know, maybe even 50 years from now, I might add something.
I think it would be funny to release an update when I'm, like, 90 years old — if I live that long. Let's hope."
Stardew Valley could have one of the most loving communities, formed by a massive fanbase of over 41 million players. Barone expressed his appreciation to the supportive players who made the game so popular and made his dreams of being a game developer come true.
