Peyton Varney allowed us to repost his tutorial of how he did the foliage for his thesis, Protégé. This is just one of the many ways, of course, but it’s actually quite awesome when you’re dealing with different scenes. The final environment here was rendered real-time in UE4. The foliage was modeled in Maya and ZBrush, then brought into Substance Designer for the final look.
