A week ago, 2D Animator and Motion Designer Seter MD went viral on social media by showcasing a fantastic stylized water visual effect, inspired by Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away and made using Adobe After Effects and the Displacer Pro add-on.
With thousands of people instantly falling in love with Seter's mesmerizing creation, it was only a matter of time before someone would attempt to recreate the FX, and thankfully, the one who was among the first to delight us with a faithful replica of the effect was none other than the most renowned "Unity shaders guy", the author of "The Unity Shaders Bible", Fabrizio Espindola.
Using his favorite game engine, the artist closely recreated the effect, employing "noise, sine functions, and a particle system" to set up the shader. "If you know shader language, you can replicate amazing effects like this Ghibli-style water effect by Seter MD. We made this one in Unity, but you can achieve similar results with Unreal Engine or even Godot," commented the author.
