Houdini 18 is finally here, introducing SideFX Solaris and more.
The biggest thing, of course, is Solaris which is a new set tools for look development, layout and lighting helping artists create USD-based scene graphs from asset creation to final render. Solaris integrates with USD's HYDRA Imaging Framework for the ones using the new SideFX Karma, Pixar RenderMan, Autodesk Arnold, Maxon Redshift and other tools.
The update also introduces more possibilities for directable destruction shots. "From guided simulations to SOP-level setups, VFX artists can create blockbuster FX faster than ever before," states the team. There's a more realistic chipping algorithm, support for easy fracturing with custom meshes, and more.
What is more, it adds a new Sparse solver which allows users to create more impressive fire and smoke shots. "Houdini 18 includes a highly controllable solver for Pyro spreading - and the entire Pyro FX pipeline is available in SOPs, including post-processing," states SideFX.
