Liquid Crystal invites you to a world of pure particles.
Grant Kot has presented a mind-blowing demo that’s been added to their WIP project, which shows voxel ships conflicting and interacting with furious waves in an extremely smooth and satisfying way.
Their WIP project is Liquid Crystal, a 3D physics sandbox game, where, as seen in the demo above, everything is simulated in real-time with particles, and every single block can be interacted with. It also supports multiplayer and allows players to build and be creative in a voxel space together. The recently shared footage gives us further looks into the featurs and mechanisms of Liquid Crystal:
Grant Kot has been working on the project for quite a while, and from this video, we can see what the simulation of a boat on particle-based water looked like 17 years ago, compared with the real-time voxel ship that we see today:
If you’d like to explore this particle-simulated world, feel free to try out the 2024 Liquid Crystal Demo on itch.io and follow the developer on X/Twitter to stay updated.
