Assassin’s Creed Red's Devs Will Work With Japanese Consultants

The team aims to avoid criticism for "cultural tourism".

A week ago, Ubisoft announced that they had several new Assassin's Creed games currently in production, one of which was Assassin's Creed Red, an upcoming open-world RPG set in Feudal Japan. According to the initial announcement, the game is being developed by Ubisoft Québec, the developer of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Unfortunately, not much was revealed about the game itself, but thanks to two Ubisoft sources familiar with the game’s development, we now know a little bit more about the title. According to Axios' Stephen Totilo, Red's developers plan to work closely with Japanese consultants, as well as Ubisoft's Japanese studio, in order to avoid criticism for the so-called "cultural tourism" and make the game as culturally authentic as possible.

Stephen also added that the extent to which Ubisoft's consultants will be able to affect the game's production, style, and plot is currently not known.
