At the latest Morgan Stanley event, J.B. Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games for Warner Bros. Discovery, stated that the company is planning to change its current strategy and focus more on mobile, live service, and free-to-play titles.
It's no secret that one of the latest Warner Bros. releases, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, wasn't exactly a successful launch, to put it mildly. So, it seems that the company has made some conclusions and decided to shift its focus from AAA games to service solutions.
The success of Hogwarts Legacy, which sold over 22 million copies, is seen as uncertain in a "volatile" market. The disappointment with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League proves this point. Thus, to improve the success of future games, a new strategic investment plan is being implemented.
"We're doubling down on games as an area where we think there is a lot more growth opportunity that we can tap into with the IP that we have and some of the capabilities we have on the studio where we're uniquely positioned as both a publisher and a developer of games," he stated.

"Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?" he continued.
Perrette added that thanks to famous brands like Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and DC, along with 11 internal studios for game development, Warner Bros. Discovery has taken a unique and strong position.
Adding to the mentioned above, he anticipates that gaming will drive "meaningful growth" for the company in the coming years.
