Unreal Engine-Made Mouse Tracking Effect Inspired by Path of Exile 2

Giovanni Chequi spent some quality time with Blueprints.

Path of Exile 2 has entered Early Access, and while it's just a fun game to play for some, it's an inspiration for others. Giovanni Chequi, Dead by Daylight's UI designer, was awed by PoE 2's hover effect that casts light when you move your cursor over the skill/mana area and decided to recreate it in Unreal Engine.

"So, inside the widget's Blueprint, I created a function to track the mouse position on the screen and pass these coordinates to the material with the 'light' texture. This way, the glow follows the mouse as I scroll across the screen."

While Chequi didn't provide a tutorial for the feature, he shared a video that helped him create the basis for the effect.

Chequi seems to be a fan of "Diablo-like" games, as he has previously made the health orb from Diablo 4 with a dynamic filling effect.

You can find more of his work on X/Twitter and LinkedIn.
