Omar Faruq Tawsif tried 3 texturing approaches.
Most 3D artists at big companies don't use Blender in their workflows, preferring software like 3DCoat or Substance 3D Painter for texturing. However, beginners and those who simply don't have access to paid programs wish to learn how to produce the best work with what they have, and this is where Omar Faruq Tawsif's latest tutorial enters the picture.
The artist tried 3 approaches to texturing stylized game assets: with 3DCoat, a single-layer way in Blender, and a non-destructive paint system using several layers. The latter is what Tawsif is ready to teach you in the video below.
The creator used Ucupaint, a layer-based painting add-on, to texture a stylized shield. In the tutorial, he shows his work with layer masks and curvature maps, adding depth with details and directional lighting.
Then, he demonstrates how to add variation to materials, edit the look, and bake the whole project.
Tawsif's progress was aided by Marco Bucci's tutorials, so if you wish to study further, check out his YouTube channel as well.
