In case you are interested, FiberShop is a standalone software for creating 2D and 3D hair in real-time, that allows you to create any number of blocks, modifying them separately by adding new modifiers to each block and moving them in 2D space. FiberShop calculates the ambient occlusion in real-time progressive mode directly from 3D meshes and the result is physically based. You can learn more and download the software here.
