"Just because one person (or company) does not love physical, there is plenty who still do."
In case you missed it, following the release of a new Alan Wake 2 trailer at PlayStation Showcase 2023, Remedy Entertainment issued a statement announcing that the game will be available only as a digital release, meaning that there won't be any physical editions of the title. The decision quickly caused a controversy, prompting many to either postpone the purchase of Alan Wake 2 until the game is available at a discount or boycott the release entirely.
Publisher THQ Nordic also reacted to the news, announcing that "would love to" handle the physical release of Remedy's upcoming survival horror and urging the developer to "give it some thought". "I mean, we did the disc version of Alan Wake for PC back in the day," stated THQ Nordic via Twitter. "And just because ONE person (or company) does not love physical, there is plenty who still do."
At the moment of writing this, Remedy Entertainment hasn't responded to THQ's proposal and hasn't shared any news or updates regarding the backlash against their decision to make Alan Wake 2 digital-only.
Alan Wake 2 is coming on October 17, 2023, to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can learn more about the game here.
