The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Is The Second Best Selling Game Of 2023 in the USA

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released on Nintendo Switch last month, but the game has already proven a huge hit.

Mat Piscatella, Executive Director of Circana, former NPD Group, published the report stating that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has become the second best-selling game of 2023 in the USA while Hogwarts Legacy took first place.

Nintendo has not provided sales information for digital games, therefore the overall sales only apply to physical copies of Tears of the Kingdom. The game's success also led to increased sales of Nintendo Switch, which was the best-selling video game console in May.

Less than a week since its official release on May 12, 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom managed to shatter a few records, becoming not only one of the highest-rated games but also the fastest-selling game in the history of the entire Zelda series.

Surprisingly, the popularity of the game has contributed to the demand for the first Zelda title. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the 13th best-selling game in May, according to Piscatella. A month ago, the game was only 28th in the rankings. It appears that Tears of the Kingdom's widespread appeal may have persuaded new fans to give the whole series a try. Breath of the Wild, which is now the fourth best-selling Switch game, sold 29.81 million copies, according to sales data given by Nintendo in early May.

While Tears of the Kingdom remains behind Hogwarts Legacy in the USA, it is the best-selling game in the UK. According to information released by GamesIndustry.biz last month, Tears of the Kingdom overtook physical sales of Hogwarts Legacy.
