Listen to your favorite podcaster speaking any language.
You can now listen to Spotify podcasts in your native language thanks to AI. The company has presented Voice Translation – a new feature that translates podcasts into additional languages in the podcaster's voice.
The tool uses OpenAI's recent voice generation technology to match the original speaker's style, making it sound as natural as possible. The feature works with podcasts recorded in English and translates them into other languages, including Spanish, French, and German.
Spotify has worked with Dax Shepard, Monica Padman, Lex Fridman, Bill Simmons, and Steven Bartlett to generate voice translations for select episodes and future releases. In the future, we will see the tech used in Dax Shepard’s eff won with DRS, The Rewatchables from The Ringer, and Trevor Noah’s new original podcast.
“By matching the creator’s own voice, Voice Translation gives listeners around the world the power to discover and be inspired by new podcasters in a more authentic way than ever before,” said Ziad Sultan, VP of Personalization. “We believe that a thoughtful approach to AI can help build deeper connections between listeners and creators, a key component of Spotify’s mission to unlock the potential of human creativity.”

Voice-translated podcasts will be available to Premium and Free users. Here are the first shows to be translated into Spanish, with French and German rolling out in the coming days and weeks:
- Lex Fridman Podcast – “Interview with Yuval Noah Harari”
- Armchair Expert – “Kristen Bell, by the grace of god, returns”
- The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett – “Interview with Dr. Mindy Pelz”
You can find these and future podcasts in the Voice Translations Hub. If the pilot goes well, we expect to see more languages added to the technology.
