Sony's Live-Service Heist Simulator Fairgame$ Delayed to 2026

The game's future is currently uncertain given PlayStation's scaling down its live-service initiative.

Sony is continuing to scale down the initiative of its former CEO, Jim Ryan, to heavily invest in live-service video games, with reports suggesting that the release of its upcoming heist simulator, Fairgame$, has been postponed until 2026.

Announced in 2023, Fairgame$ was described as a "competitive heist game where you join an underground movement to rob the ultra-rich and rebalance the scales," tasking you to outsmart guards, security systems, and players from other teams. The game is being developed by Haven Studios, a Canadian team led by Jade Raymond, best known for her work on Assassin's Creed, and acquired by Sony in 2022.

While neither Sony nor Haven ever shared a release date for Fairgame$, it seems the studios initially aimed to ship the title in 2025, as according to Jeff Grubb, the game has been pushed back for an undisclosed reason and, as such, will not be released this year. "No Fairgame$ this year. Fairgame$, as far as I'm aware, has been pushed to 2026," Grubb stated during his Game Mess Decides podcast.

When the rumor spread through the community, many have questioned whether this delay is just an attempt to postpone the inevitable cancellation of Fairgame$, which some believe is bound to happen, given that Sony has already shut down multiple live-service titles. These include The Last of Us OnlineSpider-Man: The Great Web, unnamed projects from Deviation Games and London StudioTwisted MetalDestiny spin-off from Bungie, two games from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, and, of course, Concord, a game some compare Fairgame$ to due to similarities in their visual styles.

At the moment, the game's official reveal trailer stands at an abysmally poor like-to-dislike ratio on YouTube, with commenters largely mocking the "rob the rich" message coming from Sony – one of the largest corporations in the world – and suggesting that simply concording the game before it ever launches might be the best move for the studios, both financially and in terms of their reputation.
