The option is featured on PC.
Bungie's highly anticipated extraction shooter Marathon has recently entered its closed alpha testing, and one particular aspect of the game has quickly become a hot topic within the gaming community. It is the implementation of an aim assist system that is featured on PC.
Aim assist, called "Aim Magnetism" in Marathon's settings, is a common feature in console shooters. However, its presence in the PC version of Marathon, particularly when using a mouse and keyboard, has sparked considerable debate among players.
Usually, aim assist is designed to help players using controllers to compete more effectively against those using mouse and keyboard setups, with slight corrections that help players stay on target. However, in Marathon, the aim assist appears on the computer version, and many players note that the feature feels like an aimbot, a tool cheaters use to aim automatically.
"It really looks like he's cheating. That's hilarious," one player shared on Reddit after watching gameplay footage. Another wrote, "It's killed all enjoyment for me. It feels like cheating." The third player agreed, "It honestly felt like cheating for me when I was playing."
Streamer Shroud also expressed a similar opinion about this: "I get that [Bungie] is trying to balance between PC and consoles for crossplay, but it's only going to ruin the PC part of the game…"
Some players suggest the feature is stronger than intended and will be adjusted before the final release. They believe Bungie is using the alpha to gather feedback and fine-tune the aim assist, expecting it to be more balanced by launch.
