"We wanted more people to know Persona as a series, not only just Persona 5."
Persona 3 Reload developer Atlus has recently spoken with IGN revealing the reasoning behind their choice to remake the third installment.
According to Persona 3 Reload producer Ryota Niitsuma and chief director Kazuhisa Wada, the studio views Persona 3 as a pivotal moment in both the history of the franchise and Atlus as a whole.
"We believe that Persona 3 was the game that marked the actual turning point in the Persona franchise. It's a very important title for Atlas as well as for the development team who were involved in the original version of the game," Wada explained. "That's why we wanted to keep the appeal of Persona 3 to many more fans around the world as a modern gaming experience. We wanted more people to know Persona as a series, not only just Persona 5."
Niitsuma also affirmed that Persona 3 Reload is being developed with the intention of catering not only to existing fans of the franchise but also to those who may not be acquainted with it yet.
"We think this has become a title that you'll enjoy. Of course, the fans who love the Persona franchise will love this as well, as well as people who have never played Persona. We think that this is a game that can be enjoyed by many players," Niitsuma said.
Niitsuma and Wada refrained from delving into specific details regarding the changes and similarities with the original title in Persona 3 Reload, although they assured fans that Atlus intends to provide more information prior to the game's release.
Persona 3 Reload is slated for release in early 2024. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
