Almost impossible to tell that it's not real-life footage.
Passivestar, a brilliant 3D Artist and Game Developer who's delighted us with his mind-blowing projects on more than one occasion, has recently taken a small break from his more serious projects to engage in some creative 3D tomfoolery, presenting what he described as a "realistic" video game grass sway effect.
Looking incredibly natural and lifelike (for a pit of frenzied vipers from an Indiana Jones movie), Passivestar's grass appears to be the product of an experiment gone wrong, yet, despite that, is oddly satisfying. According to the creator, this experiment took place in the Godot engine, with the typhoony vegetation set up using shaders.
Last week, the artist also showcased the updated Gabor Texture Geometry Node in Blender 4.3, an upcoming new version of Blender set to exit Beta in early November:
And prior to that, Passivestar has shared a lot of incredible Ucupaint experiments, including an insightful tip for creating game-ready edge wear on any geometry in Blender, among others.
If you'd like to learn more about Passivestar's 3D endeavors, we also recommend checking out our 2023 interview with the artist, where he discussed maintaining a YouTube channel, working in Blender, and making powerful Geometry Node tools.
