Palworld Comes to PlayStation 5

Despite legal battles with Nintendo, the title expands its presence on gaming platforms.

Palworld, an open-world survival multiplayer that launched on PC and Xbox in January, has been released on PlayStation 5, as Sony announced in the State of Play broadcast on September 24.

The release on PS5 was anticipated after Palworld's developer Pocketpair announced its partnership with Sony Music Entertainment and Aniplex to establish Palworld Entertainment to accelerate the global development of the game and its further expansion.

Pocketpair

The announcement closely follows Nintendo's filing of a lawsuit against Pocketpair, accusing the latter of patent infringement. Pocketpair took to Twitter and said that it was "unaware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing upon." However, it is suggested that Nintendo owns the rights to certain gameplay elements, namely characters catching and throwing other characters' mechanics.

The legal disputes between Nintendo and Pocketpair were anticipated right after Palworld's release in January. At that time, Nintendo planned to investigate whether Palworld's developer had infringed any intellectual property rights related to Pokémon. However, it didn't seem to find any evidence proving that some of the IP was copied.
