Original Finding Nemo Opening Scene Was a Little More...Intense

Wait, so it wasn't meant for Marlin to just black out?

Even if you're not that big a fan of Pixar's works, chances are you're still familiar with the opening scene of the movie as legendary as Finding Nemo – Marlin and Coral naming their unborn children, a barracuda arriving and knocking Marlin unconscious, him waking up to find all but one roe and his wife gone, you know the drill. But did you know that this iconic intro was originally planned to be a bit more, for lack of a better word, intense, with its early iterations including elements that could have pushed the movie's rating from G to PG or even PG-13?

As was recently highlighted by Twitter user TheEternalEvil, the original draft of the opening reveals that Marlin was supposed to witness with his own eyes a hungry predator reducing the number of his offspring, with a deleted scene showing not only the aftermath but also the father's real-time reaction to the now-empty cavern where the roe had been just moments before, as well as the barracuda swiftly closing in on Coral.

Moreover, the early plans portrayed Marlin as a more fierce and assertive clownfish who didn't just black out but tried to put up a good, albeit futile, fight – a detail that would have definitely added more depth to his transformation into the nervous and overprotective helicopter parent we see throughout most of the film.

And here's the original video rediscovered by TheEternalEvil, featuring heaps of deleted scenes and shots that didn't make it to the final cut:
