The scene was created to show an OpenUSD pipeline and Omniverse abilities.
NVIDIA has presented Da Vinci Workshop, an OpenUSD data set created with Omniverse, its platform for developing metaverse applications, available for free. The data set includes individual 3D assets as well as Sequence and Shot structures.

The scene was set up by several artists as an example of using OpenUSD in a filmmaking-like production process. They wanted to provide practical examples of production-ready USD Structures, illustrate the utility of various OpenUSD composition arcs, and demonstrate an OpenUSD pipeline that "supports sequential data propagation and concurrent, non-destructive refinement across a medium sized creative team."

"A team of 10 NVIDIA artists worked together to develop a fully-OpenUSD pipeline and custom tooling on NVIDIA Omniverse, using design software like Adobe Substance Painter, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, DaVinci Resolve, Foundry Nuke, SideFX Houdini, Pixelogic ZBrush, and Omniverse USD Composer to bring the scene to life."
