Modder Adds Ray Tracing to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Game

So can you.

Argonaut Games

Old games don't have to be ugly, I believe, and modder mmdanggg2 seems to agree as they created Unreal Engine 1 RTX Remix Render Device, a custom render device optimized for use with NVIDIA's RTX Remix, a modding toolset that allows you to create remasters of DirectX 8 and 9 games, adding ray tracing.

mmdanggg2 has already added full ray tracing to several games, and with the 1.5 update, it was time for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which can now use NVIDIA's DLSS 3.5 upscaling tech. The game looks better than ever with the new lighting, and you can also enjoy the results by following the instructions on the tool's GitHub page.

To make it work with the first Harry Potter game, you will need the title itself and RTX Remix Runtime v0.4+. It also works with 5 other games:

  • Unreal Tournament (OldUnreal v469d and v436)
  • Unreal (v226)
  • Deus Ex (v1112fm)
  • Nerf Arena Blast (v300)
  • Rune (v107)
