Mark Zuckerberg Commented on Apple's Vision Pro AR Headset

Zuckerberg noted that the upcoming headset doesn't offer anything that Meta hadn't "already explored".

During a recent meeting with Meta employees, the company's CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on Apple's AR headset Vision Pro, unveiled earlier this week at Worldwide Developers Conference, revealing that he doesn't seem to be afraid of a new potential competitor.

Addressing Apple's announcement, Zuckerberg stated that Vision Pro lacks any significant technological advancements that Meta hadn't already delved into. Additionally, he expressed his views on the price of the upcoming headset, highlighting that Meta's forthcoming Quest 3 headset would be considerably more affordable at $499, in contrast to the Vision Pro's hefty price tag of $3,499.

"I think that their announcement really showcases the difference in the values and the vision that our companies bring to this in a way that I think is really important," Meta CEO told employees (via The Verge). "Every demo that they showed was a person sitting on a couch by themself. I mean, that could be the vision of the future of computing, but like, it’s not the one that I want."

Earlier, Apple's CEO Tim Cook also commented on Vision Pro's price tag, saying that $3,499 is a reasonable price due to the device's exceptional engineering and advanced features.

At first glance Apple Vision Pro had strong similarities to Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality platform that powered various brands of headsets about six years ago. I didnt really see anything game changing. Also there has been quite a lot of confusion about whether these headsets are VR headsets. Apple has clearly indicated that they are AR Headsets and the primary focus is in AR although they are quite capable of VR. Its a spatial computing device aimed at productivity but can also deliver entertainment. Where traditional VR headsets have failed is in text readability making them useless as productivity tools in standard office applications. Apple Vision Pro has broken down this barrier. However it is extremely expensive and is only meant for the wealthy. However I do envisage Apple releasing a more affordable solution trimmed down version of the Vision Pro that harnesses some of the excellent features in this headset.
