Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Date Delayed

The game was initially scheduled for release in the first half of 2023, however, its launch has been postponed due to continuous development.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight, will not be released within the 12-month timeframe following the 2022 Xbox June showcase, as originally planned. This information was revealed by Matthew Griffin, who is responsible for marketing and publishing the game.

On Tuesday, Griffin took to Twitter saying that the original plan of releasing the game in the first half of 2023 has been pushed back due to ongoing development.

"We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can," he wrote.

Griffin assured fans that additional details about the game will be disclosed as the release date approaches, although the exact release date remains unknown at this time.

Having started as a Kickstarter campaign that garnered over 2,000 backers and just over AUD $57,000, the original Hollow Knight was released in 2017 to outstanding critical acclaim. As of 2019, it sold a total of 2.8 million copies worldwide.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally conceived as a downloadable expansion for the original game but has since grown into a standalone release.

It maintains the 2D Metroid-style structure that made Hollow Knight so successful but features a new main character named Hornet. One of the new elements in Silksong is crafting, which enables Hornet to collect materials and create weapons and tools.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
