Hagrid's Hut Made Procedural with Houdini

Jonas Ganser demonstrated his magic abilities.

You will surely recognize this cozy house if you've seen Harry Potter. Recreated by talented CG Generalist Jonas Ganser in Houdini, this modular piece is Hagrid's hut, painstakingly constructed in 3D.

As Ganser shared, he made a fully procedural base model with adjustable elements, so you can, for example, change the number of stairs using sliders.

"The simple base geometry is then processed through node graph setups that procedurally turn it into rock formations or generate roof tiles based on the input mesh. This means I can adjust the height of the roof blockout later and simply rerun the setup. These setups can also be reused to turn anything into stone walls for other projects or serve as the foundation for creating new setups."

The big rocks were created by a rock generator that makes them from spheres, while the texturing and shading were done in Houdini using MaterialX and Quixel textures to make sure no retexturing or reshading is required if the size of the rocks in the walls changes.

There is more to love on Ganser's ArtStation if you're impressed by this work, so be sure to visit him there and maybe leave a comment or two.
