The devs also plan to run a technical test shortly prior to the game's release.
Supergiant Games has released a new blog post providing an update on Hades II, the studio's upcoming action-roguelike, and the sequel to the 2020 hit, Hades.
Announced at The Game Awards 2022, the game was originally set to launch in early access sometime in 2023, promising to expand on the best aspects of the original game and deliver an action-packed and endlessly replayable experience rooted in Greek mythology. However, in their latest announcement, the release date for the game has been pushed back to Q2 2024, with the early access launch planned for both Steam and Epic Games Store.
"You may be wondering, why can't we launch in Early Access, like, right now?! The game looked pretty far along in the first trailer! The reason is, Hades II will have at least as much content from day one in Early Access as the original game did back when it launched in Early Access on Steam," commented the developer.

Additionally, Supergiant Games has announced their plans to conduct a technical test with a limited number of players shortly before the game's early access release. The purpose of this test is to uncover and address any technical or compatibility issues that may have been overlooked, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable playing experience for anyone trying out Hades II.
"This technical test will contain much less content than what's in store for the Early Access launch, and likely be limited only to a relatively small subset of players who express interest in participating," reads the blog post. "We'll announce more details about the Hades II Technical Test closer to when it's ready."

The developers have also confirmed that much like the original game, Hades II will receive multiple major updates, expanding core content and refining the experience based on player feedback. Each update will enrich the story, introducing new characters and deepening existing relationships. These updates will lead to the v1.0 launch, concluding the story and adding final touches.
"For now, our focus is to keep building core content – environments, characters, weapons, Boons, story events, music, and more – as we gear up for our Technical Test and Early Access launch in Q2 this coming year," said Supergiant. "Thank you again for your patience and support as we work to ensure our first sequel meets our standards, and hopefully yours, too!"
