Martin Chang released his custom shader.
In November, Martin Chang, whose incredible animations we've showcased multiple times, revealed that he was developing a custom Maya shader with dynamic shadows and lighting. He demonstrated it on characters from Byte Breakers, a new battle royale game he's working on as the animation director. Since then, the artist has given a sneak peek of the project, and now the tool is available for download with a "pay what you want" option.
It allows for quick setup of a simple cel shader in Maya's Viewport 2.0, ideal for playblasting or pre-visualization. Maya Viewport 2.0 Simple Cel Shader Tool automatically detects materials assigned to meshes and offers easily adjustable settings for colors, shading intensity, and more. It also works seamlessly with dynamic lighting and shadows.
Please note that the tool is compatible with Lambert, Blinn, and Phong materials only. Martin also released a detailed guide for the Maya Viewport 2.0 Simple Cel Shader Tool, so grab the tool here and start experimenting.
