Thomas Marcos' clouds are lightweight, fast, and flexible.
Thomas Marcos, whose work on Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom and custom scratched car paint shader we previously featured, has released a new project: a completely procedural clouds shader.
This shader is designed to integrate smoothly into your Blender scenes, whether you're using Cycles or Eevee. It allows you to generate realistic cloud layers without the need for external textures and is easy to use.
According to Thomas, the shader demonstrated efficiency in a production-like environment. In the preview animations on the Gumroad page, the clouds were rendered in Eevee at three minutes per frame, while the terrain was rendered in Cycles at 30 seconds per frame on NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090.
Thomas offers this shader for free, though you're welcome to support his work. He also encourages others to share it, provide feedback, and reach out if you have any questions.
