The announcement of Ghost of Yōtei, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, excited fans ready to jump back into this fascinating world. However, not everyone was happy to see the protagonist will be a woman this time.
Responding to criticism on X/Twitter, Shawn Layden, the former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, suggested a great decision: "If you don't like it, don't buy it."
"It's a game. An entertainment. A story a team of creators believes in. They want to make this," he said. "If you don't like it, don't buy it. In fact, why not make the game you want yourself?"
The comments under the post are something else, so here's your warning: either avoid them or grab some popcorn.
Female warriors are nothing new in Japan: as one user pointed out, "Google 'Onna-musha' and learn some history."
Ghost of Yōtei is not the only upcoming game set in Japan. Assassin's Creed Shadows enraged a lot of people with its Black protagonist so much that they started a petition asking to cancel the game.
Maybe Ghost of Tsushima fans will be happier with possible future spin-offs.
