The uncommon choice of modeling software allowed for some breathtaking results.
When considering 3D software specifically for modeling, SideFX's Houdini might not be the first choice that comes to mind, however, for those skilled in its procedural workflows, it can certainly serve as a reliable alternative to more popular programs like Maya or Blender. Case in point, an impressive CG jungle temple project, unveiled not that long ago by FX Artist and experienced Houdini user, Mike Stoliarov.
Dubbed Lizard City, the environment was assembled entirely with procedurally modeled 3D assets, created by Mike using SideFX's flagship program, which the artist chose because he "lost access to Maya". Alongside Houdini, the creator also used Maxon's Redshift for rendering and Autodesk's Fusion 360 for compositing, resulting in an incredibly atmospheric nighttime scene.
Besides the final result, Mike also provided a concise breakdown video, offering a closer look at the procedural models he made for the project. You can learn more about Lizard City and check out Mike's earlier projects by visiting the artist's Vimeo and LinkedIn pages.
