The Fortnite team has shared updates on the newly introduced Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Creator Economy 2.0, revealing changes to engagement payout metrics and sharing statistics on the engagement payouts received by creators in March and April.
Following the introduction of Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Creator Economy 2.0 in March 2023, Epic Games unveiled updates regarding the changes to their engagement payout metrics and shared some stats on the performance of their new payout system.
If you're not familiar with Unreal Editor for Fortnite, it is a recently launched PC application that offers creators access to Unreal Engine 5 tools, enabling them to build new experiences within Fortnite. With the UEFN, creators gain access to an array of assets from Fortnite itself, along with the ability to use custom assets, to design, develop, and publish games and experiences directly in Fortnite.
Additionally, in March, Epic Games introduced Creator Economy 2.0, a next-gen Fortnite economy system that allows eligible island creators to have the opportunity to receive engagement payouts, which provide monetary rewards based on the level of engagement their published island content receives.
The Fortnite team has recently provided updates on Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Creator Economy 2.0, shedding light on the adjustments made to engagement payout metrics. One notable change is the introduction of a new metric called "time played", which rewards creators based on the amount of time players spend in their islands.
Alongside the introduction of the "time played" metric, the team will maintain the measurement of Island performance using player popularity and retention metrics. However, the weighting of these metrics in engagement payouts has been reduced for now as the team is prioritizing the new "time played" metric.
The team says it will continue to improve the platform with features like persistence and analytics, providing creators with more tools for user acquisition and retention, which is why it expects that the metrics will be rebalanced over time.
In addition to revealing updates to Creator Economy 2.0, the Fortnite team also shared statistics regarding engagement payout creators received in March and April.
According to the team, creators experienced notable growth in their first engagement payout in March compared to their previous earnings through Epic's Support-A-Creator program. The company claims that among the top 1000 island creators, there was a remarkable 5.2 times median increase in earnings through engagement payouts compared to their earnings through Support-A-Creator in March.
In addition, the team anticipates that April's engagement payouts will reflect the revised payout formula, leading to a substantial increase in the total amount of money paid to creators. Specifically, the Fortnite team projects that April's engagement payouts will result in a 1.45 times higher payout compared to March.
