Danish developers 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks, owned by an Embracer Group subsidiary, have recently become the next victims of layoffs as part of the restructuring program. This follows the closure of TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design. Embracer subsidiary Saber Interactive acquired 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks, along with five other companies, in the summer of 2021. However, two and a half years later, major layoffs have occurred.

Scott Miller, Founder of 3D Realms, took to Twitter to announce that a significant number of employees from his former studio would be temporarily out of work due to the recent layoffs at Embracer. According to sources familiar with the situation, he mentioned that "at least half" of the staff at Slipgate and 3D Realms would be affected.

Michael Markie, Lead Composer at 3D Realms, also confirmed being laid off in a tweet, writing that now the composer is open for offers.

Miller also mentioned that his current company, Apogee Entertainment, plans to hire "at least" two or three employees from the laid-off staff. According to the company's data, Slipgate Ironworks had fewer than 200 employees as of mid-2023, indicating that the December layoffs may have impacted dozens of people.

We hope that the downsized employees will find new jobs, the whole situation with layoffs right before the Christmas holidays is terrible and heartbreaking.
