Doom: The Dark Ages Release Date Announced

Developer id Software also presented a new gameplay sizzle trailer and revealed more information about the upcoming title.

Doom: The Dark Ages is coming this May, Microsoft has announced during the Xbox Developer Direct. Along with the announcement, developer id Software also presented a new gameplay sizzle trailer and revealed more information about the prequel to the 2016 DOOM and DOOM Eternal.

The team has shared a closer look at its core pillars - combat, exploration, and story on Xbox Wire. According to Game Director Hugo Martin, the main focus of the title would be “all about engagement; creating a loop or ‘dance’ that’s intuitive, innovative and loaded with depth – fun on the outside smart on the inside.”

Notably, the game will be focusing on a single-player campaign and will not include a multiplayer mode, which was a decision made in the early development period. Game Director Hugo Martin said, “It was meant to just focus on the single player campaign and just level up that experience for players.” He further explained, “It’s our largest, most expansive, most epic campaign ever and we’re just really happy with the decision.”

The flexibility players will enjoy could be one at an unparalleled level. Aiming to become a “DOOM for all slayers,” DOOM: The Dark Ages will not only have the standard customizable difficulty setting, meanwhile, for the first time, the developers also would like to make the combat “more approachable and flexible than ever before,” so they add additional gameplay sliders to allow players to adjust game speed to a level they prefer.

DOOM: The Dark Ages will be released on May 15 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. Pre-orders are available now, with the standard version priced at $69.99 and the premium version priced at $99.99.

As the release approaches, if you enjoy gaming on PC, here are the PC requirements so you can prepare your device for the upcoming title. Earlier this month, it was revealed at NVIDIA's CES 2025 event that the game will support multi-frame generation from DLSS 4, ray reconstruction, and path tracing.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is spiritually connected to the original game. Last June, the director talked about how it managed to bring in fresh elements while also preserving the franchise's core essence in the newest installment in a franchise with a history of over three decades.
