On January 31, Joe Blackburn, Destiny 2's Game Director, took to Twitter and announced that in February he'll "head on a new adventure outside the walls of Bungie."
Bungie's Designer Tyson Green, who has been with the studio since the late 90s, will take on the position.
"As we hit End-to-End next month, Tyson Green will take the reins as D2 Game Director. If you've followed Bungie for any length of time, you've heard his name. From Halo PvP to the creation of Exotic weapons in D1, Tyson has been a critical part of Bungie's legacy since Myth II," wrote Blackburn.
Blackburn will pass it on to Green in February as internal testing for Destiny 2: The Final Shape commences. Bungie considers this phase to be crucial, as it paves the way for polishing the game.
Blackburn had briefly left Bungie in 2019 to work at Riot Games but returned to the studio in 2020. Destiny 2: The Final Shape, which is expected to be the culmination of ten years of Destiny development, is slated for release on June 4, 2024.
As for now, it's not clear what Blackburn is going to do, except for "taking a big break from social media." Hopefully, we'll hear from him soon.
