Dead Cells is Being Adapted into an Animated Series

Motion Twin has announced that the team behind the animation for the video game is also producing the Dead Cells series.

Developer Motion Twin just revealed the launch of a 10-episode animated series based on the game Dead Cells in 2024. The series is being produced by French studio Bobbypills, who also was in charge of the animated trailers for the game and its many DLC releases. Animation Digital Network has also joined the project and will co-produce the series.

Seven-minute episodes will follow the game’s narrative, as it’s set on a “cursed island” with a population of “monstrous creatures” and “prophecies depicting a flame-headed hero”, according to the trailer's YouTube description.

“After the island’s foolish king develops a remedy that ends up turning the population into monstrous creatures, prophecies depicting a flame-headed hero who will kill the crazy King begin to appear. As it so happens, this beheaded hero is real, but saving a kingdom isn’t on his schedule and he just wants to be left alone," the development team wrote in the description.

Players have positively rated the Dead Cells game since its launch in 2018 with more than 10 million copies sold. The game has a peculiar pixel art style, with colourful environments and great readable character animations. Ever since Motion Twin has continued to build upon it bringing new protagonists and level designs to the game earlier this year. Currently, Dead Cells is available on every platform, including PC, consoles and mobile devices.
