Creating Mossy Scenes With tyFlow, 3DS Max & V-Ray

Artist Danilo Lombardo from the Realtime team has recently shared an article on setting up mossy environments.

The project was an attempt to recreate the mossy forest of Wistmans Wood from Devon, England. The artist needed to create a flexible scattering system that could be used when setting up chaos throughout the scene. "In doing this, it’s really beneficial to come up with a hierarchy of growth that can be repeated across, and that helps us define the visual pattern for the elements," noted the artist.

tyFlow was used to deal with the scattering part and some other aspects. The artist noted that it provides a number of possibilities for environment artists. "I have always been a fan of using particle flow in Max for certain tasks, and tyFlow have the amazing ability to scatter a crazy amount of points to any surface and gives artist a lot of freedom in what to do with those points," wrote Lombardo.

The artist was able to set up a moss system that can be reused even in future projects. Make sure to read the full article here.
