Since its launch in 2014, Triplegangers has aimed to provide a comprehensive 3D scan repository for artists to enhance the quality of human characters in video games and VFX. Today, it boasts over 1,340 face identities, 235 full-body models, 230 hand models, and a staggering 60,000 unique scans across various libraries.
The first and largest library Triplegangers offers is the Face Scan Library, featuring over 1,340 individuals, 651 male and 691 female models, with an average of 21 expressions each resulting in more than 28,000 unique scans.
This collection showcases a diverse range of 3D-scanned human faces, representing various ethnicities, ages, heights, and body types. Moving forward, the team aims to scan at least 10,000 individuals to provide a more comprehensive sample of human face variations.
Scans from this library are delivered with full-resolution photographs and RC project files, enabling you to control the texturing process by importing your own cleaned topology back into RC and selecting your preferred texture resolution.
The second library is the Full Body Scan Library made possible by the Body Action Coding System (BACS), developed by Triplegangers, a unique method of cataloging human body shapes in various basic positions, taking into account such factors as age, fitness, gender, and body types. This system focuses on coding human body elements, analyzing body shapes and movements primarily from a visual perspective. The data can be applied in areas like art, animation, fashion, clothing design, medicine, anthropometry, generative AI, and machine learning research, to name just a few.
So far, the library features 235 individual models, resulting in over 5,300 BACS Pose scans. Additionally, there are over 7,900 unique poses portraying activities such as dancing, fighting, posing, and jumping. All are available in high-quality 3D scanned formats, including a 15-million polygon mesh, 16K albedo textures, and detailed statistical data for each scanned individual.
In addition to BACS, the team is also exploring the artistic beauty of the human body through a wide range of diverse poses and actions. Their goal is to capture the full spectrum – from skinny to overweight, young to old and fragile, and from ordinary individuals to top-performing athletes.
"This library is created by the artists for the artists," comments the Triplegangers team. "Reference material is at the foundation of any creative artwork, whether it's stock images from the internet or real-life subjects.
While photos and pictures are easy to find, they lack depth and are confined to a single perspective, even videos will be limited to how the camera was set up and what was shown from what angle. Real-life subjects are excellent, but people move and get tired, and the lighting changes constantly.

Lastly, there's the Hand Scan Library, an extensive resource designed to provide accurate, diverse, and detailed human hand scan data. It includes 230 individual hands, each with 62 different poses, resulting in over 14,200 unique human hand scans.
Each neutral hand pose from the Hand Scan Library was carefully cleaned, retopologized, and precision-sculpted to create high-quality interchangeable hand sculpts. They share the same mesh topology and UVs, allowing for the blending of both geometry and textures, fully or in various proportions, to create new hand shapes and modifications.
