Take a Look at This Highly Realistic Animated Portrait Made with Maya

A recreation of Sean Sherwin, Unity Creative Director, by Ian Spriggs.

Character Artist Ian Spriggs showcased this fantastic animated portrait of Sean Sherwin, Creative Director at Unity Technologies, made in a collaboration with the artist's brother, Animation Supervisor Richard Spriggs.

Ian Spriggs shared that he wished to tackle creating animated portraits, which is one of the hardest tasks in 3D art. The work involved capturing thousands of photo references for multiple different expressions, modeling around 30 full-face blend shapes, and splitting them into 140 FACS-based shapes.

The artist used Advanced Skeleton as a base for the rig and added custom changes. The 3D model has a complete body and face rig. Richard Spriggs then key-framed 19 seconds of animation.
