Check out Smooth Animations from This Stunning Skateboarding-Inspired Game

Sword of the Sea is the latest project presented by ABZÛ and The Pathless developer Giant Squid.

Giant Squid, the developer behind the relaxing underwater exploration game ABZÛ and adventure game The Pathless, has presented a new clip showcasing the fluid movement from their latest project. The controllable character performs dynamic surfing on a hoversword over moving terrain, which is quite impressive.

Sword of the Sea is the game that they are working on, which is “an atmospheric adventure with highspeed movement inspired by skateboarding games.” In the game, you will surf across surreal and ever-changing landscapes, such as sand, lava, ice, and more, to find a lost ocean teeming with life. The unveil trailer below will surely leave you in “wow.”

The way you control the Hoversword resembles that of a snowboard and skateboard. As it gains momentum, it can go up walls and take epic leaps. With the stunning landscapes, Sword of the Sea will surely bring a unique adventure.

Other than the extraordinary visuals, the game also features a moving story that’s greatly enhanced by the game’s colors, lighting, music, and sparse dialogues. Speaking of the music, it’s presented by industry legend Austin Wintory and will dynamically change as the gameplay reflects where you are in the journey.

In the comment section of the post at the top, the studio’s developers shared the principles and tricks that help them create such smooth animation. Feel free to click on the link for more insights.

Let’s check out more footage shared by the developer and have a look at the core loops of the game, different sorts of “waves” in the game, and the main character The Wraith’s animation explained:
