Character Artist Unveils a Modern 3D Reimagining of Mona Lisa

Şefki Ibrahim aims to recreate the portrait in UE5 for his upcoming course.

3D Character Artist and Animator Şefki Ibrahim, widely considered to be one of the GOATs where digital realism is concerned, continues to delight the community by unveiling MetaMona, a photorealistic, modern reinterpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa set up in 3D.

Currently WIP, Şefki's XXI-century Gioconda was set up using the artist's go-to toolset, comprising ZBrush, Maya, Mari, XGen, and Arnold. According to the creator, the model was made specifically for his upcoming course and will eventually be recreated in Unreal Engine 5 and Houdini, the latter of which Şefki is learning as we speak to push the hairstyles of his models to a whole new level. More updates on the portrait and the course are expected to arrive in the near future.

Just recently, the creator also shared a highly realistic 3D teeth asset that you can download and use for your own digital characters:

And prior to that, the author bid a bittersweet farewell to Aria, an original character born back in 2022 as an experimental project that later became Şefki's unofficial mascot, having been featured in several top-quality character animations produced by the artist.

We highly encourage you to follow Şefki on TwitterLinkedIn, and Instagram to see more of the artist's incredible artworks.

We also recommend checking out Şefki's first course covering the essential skills and techniques you need to start creating hyper-realistic 3D characters. The guide consists of 28 videos spanning over 15 hours, offering hundreds of tips and tricks based on the artist's workflows. You can learn more and get access to the course by clicking this link.
