Introducing support for rendering 3D Gaussian Splats, updates to V-Ray GPU, V-Ray Frame Buffer, and more.
Chaos
Chaos has begun introducing new features in the latest generation of its V-Ray product, starting with the beta version of V-Ray for 3ds Max. This preview version is packed with updates aimed at enhancing your rendering workflow and bringing your projects to life like never before.
As the study of 3D Gaussian Splatting, a technique that converts point clouds into 3D scenes via machine learning, advances, there are many third-party tools for rendering 3D Gaussian Splats in Blender, Unity, or Unreal Engine, yet V-Ray is going to support this format natively.
V-Ray 7 has received plenty of lighting and rendering updates, including added support for V-Ray Luminaires and an improved PRG sky model for VRay Sun/VRay Sky, allowing you to enjoy a more realistic and dynamic sky. Also, the firefly removal feature has been updated to help you get rid of unwanted bright spots in your renders.
You can also render complex light fixtures more efficiently with optimizations for Chaos Cosmos assets and gain better control over object scattering using distribution maps with Chaos Scatter. The V-Ray Frame Buffer got a new Vignette Layer, making it possible to apply artistic vignetting effects to renders, and there are plenty of other interesting under-the-hood changes, such as initial caustics support for V-Ray GPU.
