As the latest report from Kotaku states, the Borderlands developer, Gearbox, might be departing from Embracer in the near future.

According to the reporters, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently had a meeting with the employees where he confirmed that the decision regarding the company's future had already been made, with more details to come in March.

Sources close to Kotaku also mentioned that Pitchford had been discussing three potential options with employees at Gearbox for some time: remaining with Embracer, purchasing the studio to get back to being independent, or selling the company.

As per Kotaku's report, it seems that the studio's bosses have opted to sell the studio, and the deal is nearing completion.

In September 2023, we already discussed Gearbox's potential departure from Embracer. Back then, there were some talks that a few third-party studios were interested in buying the Borderlands maker.

It seems that Gearbox is not the only studio that might be leaving the Swedish media holding giant. Earlier today, we reported that Emracer is set to sell Saber, which is currently working on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.
