The new version of the tool upgrades the Proximity Wrap deformer and Graph Editor, adds the Hypershade preferences section, updates the USD for Maya plug-in, and more.
Following the release of 3ds Max 2023.3, Autodesk also shipped Maya 2023.3, an updated version of the company's flagship 3D animation, modeling, and rendering software.
The new version of the software focuses primarily on workflow improvements, bringing upgrades to the Proximity Wrap deformer, Graph Editor, and Time Editor, adding the new Hypershade preferences section and the option to collapse sections in the UV Toolkit, updating the USD for Maya plug-in to v0.20, and more.
The highlight of Maya 2023.3 is the updated version of the tool's Proximity Wrap deformed, which now has new ways to control how the Proximity Wrap driver is used to influence the deformation of the object, allowing for a more realistic deformation.
Moreover, the update brings a new setting in the Animation (Settings) Preferences – Left-dragging moves selected keys – which lets you left-click to modify key selection, and the ability to select your audio file frequency in the new Input Audio Rate menu in the Time Editor area.
On top of that, the new version of the software comes with the USD for Maya 0.20, an updated version of the plug-in that includes important bug fixes, stability updates, and changes the workflow with Display Layers.
Maya 2023.3 also features:
- New Hypershade Preferences: A Hypershade preferences section has been added to the Preferences window to give you similar controls to the Node Editor preferences.
- Collapse UV Toolkit Selection options: You can now collapse the Selection options in the UV Toolkit, making the sections in the toolkit more accessible.
- Substance 2.3.1 plug-in: Maya 2023.3 includes Substance version 2.3.1, which uses a new Substance Engine 8.6.2 and implements various bug fixes.
- ATF Importer: Maya's Autodesk Translation Framework (ATF) importer now supports Catia V5-6R2022 and Alias 2023 models.
