Character Artist Mani Salguero shared this video showcasing his experimentation with a hand-painting technique in Maya and Substance 3D Painter.
The creator shows an appealing cartoony hand-painted effect that gives the impression that the character was sketched with a pencil. The artist clarified that the look wasn't achieved with a pencil shader. Instead, it's the result of hand painting combined with tweaking node parameters to craft the stylized appearance.
