A Stunning Water Simulation Made in Houdini & UE5

The artist tested a method of baking the whitewater particles from Houdini into vertex colors of a water simulation.

VFX Artist Dylan Browne, who recently managed to re-light a 10-year-old UE4 tech demo with UE5, has revealed a new project made for testing purposes. This time, instead of fire, the artist worked with its opposing element by setting up a beautiful water simulation using a combination of Houdini and Unreal Engine 5. According to the creator, the project was created by baking Houdini-made whitewater particles into vertex colors and then modulating the mask with some noise in Unreal, getting gorgeous flowing water as a result.
