Check out a new experience added to the 80 Level's cloud streaming service.

This week, we would like to highlight this incredible experience by talented Technical Artist, Berk Bayazit. Explore a nuclear-ravaged environment that captures the unsettling calm and silent tension of a post-apocalyptic world!

Wasteland Symphony was inspired by the awe and respect for the Fallout series, which captivates through its rich world-building and immersive experience. Stark landscapes, desolate except for the remnants of a once-thriving civilization, present an aesthetic that is intriguingly beautiful and aimed to be captured in this work. Instead of replicating the Fallout universe, the goal was to bring a personal interpretation to light by focusing on key aspects of the scene composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.

By narrowing the focus and not modeling every object, more attention could be given to the craftsmanship and texturing of key props. This approach ensures each detail enhances the mood and atmosphere of the scene.

"The experience immerses players in a nuclear-chilled environment that captures the eerie calm of the Fallout world. The scene showcases visible scars of devastation alongside a quiet beauty, blending remnants of yesterday with today’s desolation. With meticulous attention to lighting and rendering, the environment offers both a familiar post-apocalyptic feel and a unique, crafted experience. It's more than just a view; it's a gateway to explore and experience a story through its visuals", stated the artist.

A variety of industry-standard tools were used to bring Wasteland Symphony to life. Hero props were primarily created in Blender, aiming to make the assets stand out and convey their stories. Substance Painter was used for texturing, offering flexibility to depict wear and tear, which is crucial for a post-apocalyptic world.

Additionally, Substance Designer was employed to craft distinctive textures that added complexity to the surfaces. Unreal Engine played a key role in lighting, level art, and rendering, helping to fine-tune the atmosphere and seamlessly integrate all elements. This combination of tools resulted in a coherent scene that immerses viewers in the desolate beauty of the world depicted.
