Rainy Street

Rainy Street was inspired by the creator’s second attempt at crafting a stylized scene in Unreal Engine, aiming to merge vintage aesthetics with anime influences. The creation of this scene was a journey filled with both inspiration and challenges. Capturing the nostalgic feel was essential, with a strong focus on lighting to evoke the right emotions. One of the most significant hurdles was modeling, which presented a steep learning curve due to limited experience in this area.
“The project tells the poignant story of a traveler who lost her home and now has only two suitcases, one blue and one yellow, as she begins a new life in a foreign country. Each building in the city bears the same number, symbolizing the date that marked a before-and-after in her life. Ambient noises of bustling streets, distant conversations, honking cars, and the occasional siren were added to create an immersive urban atmosphere. I used 3ds Max to model the various assets”, stated the artist.
To create specific textures, Substance 3D Designer was used to generate unique materials that contributed to the scene's stylized look. For texturing, Substance 3D Painter proved indispensable, maintaining a consistent aesthetic across all models. TreeIt was utilized for creating trees and bushes. All these elements were then brought together in Unreal Engine, where the environment was built, the lighting fine-tuned, and everything ensured to work seamlessly in telling the traveler's story.
