Jean Nguyen's Dinoblade reached over 10,000 wishlists in just one day.
If you have been following the 3D animation scene since at least 2022, you likely recall the viral animation of a Spinosaurus wielding an oversized anime-style sword, attached above, which went viral and quickly amassed millions of views and hundreds of thousands of likes.
Recently, the creator of the animation Jean Nguyen, a Senior Gameplay Animator at Sucker Punch, shared some exciting news for fans of his armed dinosaurs, announcing that the legendary meme is being turned into a fully-fledged video game.
Titled Dinoblade, the upcoming soulslike action RPG originated from Jean's demo reel animations, and thanks to the community's interest and support, it was turned into a game that has been secretly in development for about a year now. And speaking of the community's support, despite getting an official Steam page only recently, Dinoblade has already hit a milestone of 10,000 wishlists, according to the artist:
As for the game itself, Dinoblade is being developed by Team Spino and takes place right after a major event that changed what we know about dinosaurs. You play as a young Spinosaurus armed with a Great Sword, battling other weapon-wielding dinosaurs to prevent extinction. In this game, you will be able to explore diverse and breathtaking biomes, each home to different types of dinosaurs and a giant ruler of the land that you must defeat in order to progress.
"Defeat your enemies to get stronger and unlock new skills," reads the game's description. "You may learn powerful abilities to combine with your combos to suit your combat style. Dodge, roll, parry and fight your way through this land of Dinosaurs using weapons to uncover the mystery of it all. Become the Alpha and save your home from this new threat."
